i changed the course of history when i touched it
plucked it from its nest and fondled it.
it only took a fingertip to gouge its life.
laid out plainly on the grass i observed
a steady pulse, an overgrown heart, feathers.
its eyes sealed in and clouded gray
it could not look at me.
my scent permeating its skin, on down to
splinter thin bones, until
even its feathered heart stank of me.
not too far from the nest but just far enough
to grow cold and starve to death
mouth open, begging, smelling of me.
